I try to get $350.00-$400.00, but sometimes will settle for $325.00. My last FHA was 400.00. ( I tried doing a few for chump change but it was not economically feasible)
The new relaxed requirements for FHA appraisers will soon make those rates drop to AMC levels. (some have already---Chapman Law Firm paying $150.00 per FHA. I talked to a guy at Chapman who mentioned they had a Toledo area based appraisal company offer them $175.00 to do all of their FHA appraisals. That company does a 50-50 or less fee split so their appraisers would have been getting $87.50 per FHA appraisal.)
I just got this atta boy email from a client that pulled me off the FHA roster for an assignment due to proximity.
"Hi Mike,
We are very impressed with your work - very thorough, well done.
We would love to send more business your way. Can you send me a list of the areas you cover?
Thanks so much!
Dolly"

Yeah, I know it's horn blowing and I could post post a sucky email as well, but this is how I can still get $350.00-$400.00 for FHA work and $300.00-$375.00 for regular 1004's. (no longer willing to think about working for less).
Keep your work quality good and find a few clients who still will pay a reasonable rate for an appraisal so they can avoid future BS and maybe you can squeak by.
$400 in for us Chicagoland. Won't do for less. Although FHA has "relaxed" their reqirements, the ambiguity of what are acceptable property standards still has me defensive about FHA work.
