Plain and simple, I think...Can an appraiser condition for a fire door for an FHA appraisal? My house is built in 1950, is it grandfathered? What are the requirements to order one or is this one for the city planner to answer?

Are you talking about a door from the garage into the home?

My take is I would not call for it nor-would I mention it -if it gets called out then a door is not very expensive and it should also be self closing and after your refinance I would do it for your own safety .

OP: There are people on the AF far more knowledgeable about FHA and MPRs than I am. Assuming the door does not enter into a bedroom, the cost for a replacement door is not horrendous. Glenn's take is interesting to not call it out. Because it's FHA, I would call for a replacement door. But, I'm willing to say Glenn might be correct.

My response is the same for 99.9% of these questions. What does the Building Inspector say?

Nothing to do with FHA. A door between the garage and a sleeping area needs to be a fire door that is self-closing.

Which City???

Which City???

Why would you ask "which city?"

This is an existing structure over 12 months old. Building code is irrelevant. It's a safety issue and would apply to any type of lender appraisal.
