FHA case number change request after appraisal completion

We received a request from an AMC approximately two weeks after the completion of an appraisal report that a new FHA case number had been assigned to the appraisal report, along with a request to revise the report with the new number. No explanation for the change was forwarded. We've never been similarly requested, and it is our understanding that a property is assigned one number. It is our further understanding that a property cannot be "inspected" for the appraisal until the case number is assigned, so presuming there are circumstances when a second case number can be assigned, how would that apply to replacing the case number in an appraisal wherein the appraisal inspection was performed a few weeks prior?


We are researching this ourselves, but the informed counsel of FHA gurus herein who may have encountered this would be appreciated.
 
Is this a new lender/client? If so, they have the option either of using the appraisal as is, or engaging you for a new appraisal with a new effective date.

If it is the same lender/client, I would oblige the request. It is possible they send you the wrong case number. If they get a “hard stop” because the effective date of your report is prior to the case number, then they will probably be contacting you for a new appraisal. Sometimes it is too difficult to educate the client, and you have to let them chase their tail for a bit.

Same client and AMC, and we put in a request to the AMC for clarification/explanation. The case number is significantly different so as to rule out a typo on their end, but we'll see. We appreciate your response.
 
Maybe they sent you a case number from a different loan. I would just do as the client says.
 
I would call the HOC, give them both case #s and get their thoughts on it.
