What are the requirements for Chimneys and them extending beyond the roof? My subject property has a chimney that goes about 3/4 up and vents out. Any advise would be appreciated. Thx

Not enough info. Many "direct vent" FPs vent straight out the back. Many FPs are unvented. A "normally vented" FP in most areas must extend 3 feet above the nearest roof within 10 feet, to insure proper "chimney effect" and to avoid potential dead spots in venting during times of less than perfect wind effects.

Its about 6 feet from the roof and is a normal vent. Thx...

As an FHA appraiser, you aren't required to be omniscient, if you have reason to question an installation call for an inspection by a qualified professional. Just don't do it for every little CYA thing you see.

It looks sound, but it just does not vent above the roof. I guess I will not it and see if they want an inspection done.
