Is it really that rugged an area?

Is it really that rugged an area?

Yes I grew up 8 miles away and
as a teen hiked up there. It's full of rocks and sharp stone and it's deceptive because you just don't realize it until you walk on it.

I had two High School friends die on it one slid off a trail and hit his head on a rock and the other got drunk and passed out in the snow and It's also very dangerous to ski
on but when your young and think your invincible and bullet proof.

The problem is is much closer than Big Bear or Arrowhead, etc. so a lot of people (day trippers many without even water or a jacket) can get up there in under 1/2 an hour to hike in the snow
