I requested a free-trial of WinTOTAL Aurora a few weeks ago. Then i tried to intall it in to my PC, an error occured while verifying wintotal's database: one or more of the database scripts failed to executed. however the installation continued and finished. When i started to use it, it asked me to create a new user name, but it did not let me to create any user. Another error(something like database blocked) occured, and it closed by itself. Can someone please help me on this.

P.S. I already called ala mode tech support. The woman on the phone was rude and not helpful at all. She asked me to re-install the MSDE. I kind of noticed the problem was from the SQL Engine. I tried so many times re-installing it already. I also formated and re-install my system, but the problem was not solved. I also tried borrowing my friends' copy of WinTOTAL. Same problem came out.

Very unlikely that the install programs are causing your problems.
Most likely, the copy of your OS installation is the issue. After you install the OS, are you updating it? The version of MSDE that comes with WinTotal needs to meet the following:

Operating System Requirements
To use MSDE 2000, you must have installed one of these operating systems:

Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition, Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.

Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition.

Windows 2000 Professional.
Important SQL Server 2000 SP4 is not supported on Windows NT 4.0, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows 98 platforms. SQL Server 2000 SP3a installations on Windows NT 4.0, Windows Millennium Edition and Windows 98 platforms continue to receive critical hotfix support for 12 months after the final release of SQL Server 2000 SP4.

Rude and not helpful? What happened to the new and improved Alamode tech support?

Hmm...I am now using Windows XP professional SP2 ( chinese version, but i do not think this matters), so did you mean that i need to update my OS from from microsoft in order to install MSDE successfully?

Jimmy,
What I meant was there are some OS not supported by the MSDE and your post indicates problems with the MSDE install.

You may have to solve your issues with some online support groups that deal with your OS.

Older program.

The problem may be related to the fact that MSDE 2000 is an old version. If you have a Microsoft SQL 2005 based program on your computer, there can be conflicts. The Aurora installer can have problems recognizing the newer version.

Hmmm, I used WinTotal for about 8 years at my previous workplace, loved it, loved it, the last version being Athena. I just purchased Aurora for myself and plan to install it over the weekend. After reading all the threads regarding Aurora my excitement has been replaced with apprehension. Wish me luck!

Alice, there should not be much trouble for you since you will be installing on a standalone system. Most of the issues the 'early adopters' have had are fixed now, some minor bugs are lingering on. But as I mentioned earlier, these are minor and different people react with varying intensity of passion, anger and frustration over these.

Aurora is not "The Biggest Loser" yet but a strong contender now.

I hope you are not using chinese windoz :)

Michael,
Thank you for your concern, :)
I am running the Lost in Wonderland Edition!
I got Aurora installed with great success. But I like to have my screen font (DPI) set higher 125 to 150 as I have a 19" LCD flat screen and this higher setting makes it eaiser for me to see the menus and such. Aurora gave me a warning that with a large font some items on the forms may not be visable. Fixed this by adjusting the screen resolution.
