I know the distance requirement from a water well to the property line is 10 feet, however I have run into this a lot lately where there is a water well for the yard and the house is on city water. The water wells are almost never 10 feet from the property line. If a home is on city water, does the well for the yard still have to be 10 feet from the property line or do I have to call it as a repair? There is no septic, just a well.

As long as its not potable you're good.

It's not a repair no matter what it would be a inspection but like CG said if it's not potable or not used for drinking it does not matter. ASK OWNER WHAT IS WELL WATER USED FOR.. also a copy of water bill tells a lot.

Call your local code enforcement office. Don't play with it. If your in rural, they still usually have restrictions. I assume you have pretty good estimate on distances. County or city govt's usually have a good record of distance. Reason being is because a permit was pulled most likely. That does not mean it is right, but govt locally usually has to sign off on permit.

if the house has public water how are you going to argue that the well is being used for the house water. usually have seen them used to water the lawn. if it was capped off, you would require it to be moved?

I think common sense has to prevail here.

The house is on city water. Move on.
