I had an appraisal assignment out in the county today. I noticed before I went out, the land use code was a "mobile". I politely asked the borrowers if it was a manufactured home. No, no, no....this is a brick home. I guess they figured I wasn't going to inspect the property. I pull up in front of the property and sure enough I knew it was a double wide without getting out of the truck. Hey, but it was bricked. I silently wondered how much hogwash I was going to here inside. I was polite and couteous while measuring and inspecting the home. Whaddya, know the septic was overflowing. When I got inside, double wide city. I was almost complete when I started opening cabinets looking for the HUD sheet since the HUD tags had long since been bricked over. The nice borrower went on to inform me that his property was now "real estate" and no longer a manufactured home. "yes, thank you ma'am". Meanwhile, I jotted down the manufactured home information from the sheet I found in the master closet. And, politely told the borrrower I would have the appraisal delivered in a couple of days. Sometimes the most frustrating part of job is keeping my comments to myself.

Can you guess some of my swallowed comments?

Did you get a photo of the data plate while you were making notes? That paper might suddenly disappear when they find out you call it a manufactured home!!!

Nice one Tim

A bricked over DW was one of several which inspired me to start a cyber louvre of sorts. Five years from now you probably won't be able to recall squat about any megga brick colonial you've even inspected without the file in front of you but trust me, you'll remember every detail of that brick doublewide. Just pray the underwriter doesn't demand a comp with the same siding. :P Speaking of brick, your headline confused me for a second....

"If You Brick A Dog House"

It reminds me of a joke I haven't heard in years about the desert traveller who was able to get his camel to injest an extra 10 gallons of water by "bricking" the camel.....ever heard that one???? Maybe for the water cooler. :-)

Bobby,

Bricking the camel :D :D ...I haven't heard of that joke in years.....trotta will know that one for sure

Ben

Ben maybe we can convince trotta to post the entire joke. I'm reluctant to do it since this is still a family channel. :)

y'all are really showing your age...

A bricked in mobile home is a definate NO NO. In some jurisdictions it is illegal. Depending on the age of the mobile home the material used to build these things was down right dangerous. If there is a fire it will become an explosion from all the built up gasses. Check with the fire marshall before you proceed.

Hell out here they just pile hay bales around the house.

Bricking a camel.....yep, remember that one. Two bricks, one camel, one oaisis, one long desert trip.

Midnight at the oaisis...all the arabs were sitting around eating their dates. Can I say that?

As I recall the process is painless as long as you keep your thumbs up.

The bales reminded me. I sell Bermuda grass hay for horses. Last cutting was 15% protein and a RFV (relative food Value) of 97.3 - Magic 100 is excellent excellent. I was told by the county agent this was best test so far this year (in a county that won 12 of 15 awards for bermuda hay quality over the past 3 years or so) A couple of years ago I got a call in winter from a lady who wanted to buy about 20 bales and wanted me to deliver them. So I did. She bought them to insulate her drain and water pipes which had froze.....not one sheet of skirting, pipes completely exposed. We stuffed the hay under the trailer and I found out later she got the pipes thawed. I really hated to see my primo hay used in such a manner. So now I cut a wad next to my pond that is grass hay for buyers wanting hay for Halloween / Thanksgiving decorations and insulation.
