Interesting Read-orea Take Down Of MAI

Which one is it? There's about 350 listed. One of the two most recent one just provides a brief summary that an appraiser was involved in a fraudulent scheme to sell high yield investments based off real estate investments in Mexico and they were convicted of wire fraud.

http://www.orea.ca.gov/acc/002574_Dec_20130614-04.pdf This one is a doozy. The appraiser basically stiffed about 10 people over the years by taking their money and then never providing them appraisals. It says he was 66 years old and homeless and his sole defense was that the motel where was living had thrown away all his work files.

Dozier file, sorry, I have it in a pdf, too large to post.

Sounds like he needed revoking. I don't know if value per hole would be appropriate for valuing a golf course, but imagine it's not in this case since commercial use was not allowed.

From an MAI friend, who was chief appraiser at a bank who made the mistake of hiring Dozier-

Yes, I know all about him. He was terrible!

I hired "him" for a complex property - for a Really good client of the Bank (and that's my opinion, not just the lender's.)
I made sure hew knew it would be complex (although essentially residential.)
He sent a "trainee" - by herself, she made ridiculous comments on site to the borrower - who was furious.
I called Dozier - he was in an airport - leaving down for a few days - and didn't see any problem,....

Why, after all, he would just have her send him an appraisal over the internet - and he would sign it....
Easy peasy.
I fired his ***.

She's out now.

Your guy got off easy. $126k? or whatever in fines, but only $10k unless he decides to try a comeback. :leeann:
