Hello everyone,

A little about me and where I'm at. I'm Dustin, former engineer of over a decade in the south metro area of Minnesota, working to change things up a bit. Just starting on becoming an appraiser after switching careers, and wondering the best "Gold Nugget" advice the more experience appraisers have for those just entering the field. Recently finished the 75hr required learning for becoming an trainee appraiser and currently trying to figure out the next steps to take in this process.

Some questions I've got.

In this process I've run across "Minnesota Supervisor/Trainee Appraiser Course (6hr)" and am not sure as to what it is, as it was not apart of the McKissock courses that I just completed and if it needs to be completed before or after finding a supervisory appraiser?

Any nuanced advice to find and introduce myself to a supervisory appraiser that may help out? Outside of the stock answers from google.

As well as any questions I should be asking as I go through this journey?

Warm Regards,
Dustin

Mortgage appraisal industry is going thru a major period of creative destruction....
Really research the appraisal industry especially if you have other income producing options....

The IRWA is hosting a 3-day event in St. Paul mid April.

Suggest going and connecting with members...asking about entry level opportunities.

Good luck.

Drive thru the industrial parks, note for sale signs, call brokers to find out who the local appraisers are, approach them. Look up addresses of industrial properties in deed records, seek out morgages, note loan officers, talk to them, ask who the appraisers are that they use, find them and sell yourself.
