I have scoured the Handbook but can find no specific information on Blue Poly plumbing. Does anyone have experience or information?

FHA does not have any rules regarding the type of plumbing piping.

FWIW, Are you sure its polybutylene? I have never seen blue "quest", but there is lots of blue "pex" out there, with no known problems.

My take is that 4150.2 has been setup on the assumption that building codes exist..............that would handle is huge part of the appraisers on site work. Is this a code area? If it is code compliant, it is good to go. Is it the entire house, and built when?

Kitek plumbing come in blue and red. It is an aluminum tube that is coated and lined with PVC. The fittings are known for corroding in hard water through a process called de-zincification. The fittings were made with a high zinc content. There have been class action lawsuits in Las Vegas related to this problem. My house has it and I am in line to have the plumbing replaced at the cost of the builder and manufacturer. I report the presence of Kitek plumbing when I run across it. The electric panel usually has a sticker warning about using Kitek for grounding the electrical system. As far as I know the FHA has not addressed this issue.

Another fine reason not to do FHA appraisals...not being a home inspector.
