Does anyone have a recommendation for a good software program to calculate land area, from metes and bounds descriptions? I specifically need one which will calculate areas where there are curves. Hopefully, economically.

I had one, but haven't had a need to use it in quite some time, and for some reason it didn't get transferred over to my new laptop. It was a downloaded software package, and I can't, for the life of me, remember what the name of the program was.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hollar for Randal Garret if you need help buying it, or accessing it from your appraisal software.
Marion, thanks for the recommendation. I went to the site from your link, but didn't see anything regarding how to buy the software. I'm not familiar with Randall Garrett, or how to get in contact with him. I didn't see any contact names, or numbers, or email addresses, on the Apex website.

Which software packages do you recommend? And do you know how to purchase the software and download it?

I am assuming you can download it.

Rod,

If you can PM me your contact info, I can assist you in getting a trial license of Apex Sketch v5.

Hope this helps,

Another free one is Tract Plotter. I have used it and those that come with some of the appraisal software sketchers.
If you count has a GIS system most of those also have measuring subroutines. Use by tracing, not perfect but better than no data.
Legal description sometimes have errors, so watch to see if the path (direction of line) is logical.

We have been using DeedPlotter by Greenbrier Graphics for 17 years. It's easy to use and the sketch is easily pasted into a word document.
You can download a free 30 day trial.
