Just though I would pass this on to you. I sent in my renewal and got it back yeasterday. What to my surprise they have restructured the expiration dates to the last day of your birth month. Mine being September, my new license expires 3 months shy of the 24 month period yet I still had to pay the fee for the 24 month period. Has anybody else noticed this? I wonder what is happening to those having birthdays prior to say, JUNE!!! I would be interested to find out.

License Renewals

Consider yourself lucky that you weren't born in January as I was. I also renewed this year and my new license expires 1/31/14 - so I paid $400 for a 13 month license. When I questioned the NHREAB, they told me they don't have authority to pro-rate fees but can reduce CE hours. I'll need "only" 14 hours of CE and another $400 before I have to renew again next December. Anyway, all renewal dates will be for 2014; I've heard they're trying to coincide renewals with new editions of USPAP. Of course, the next edition of USPAP will be effective 1/1/14.

I emailed Bobbie Carter asking for specific details on this licensure change, and will update this thread when she responds. It would appear that when I renew 12/31/13, my $400 license would only be valid until my birthday in October, or 10 months?

Official response to follow.

Here's the official response-

It is correct that you will expire in your birth month however if you renew 12/31/13 you will expire on 10/31/15. You will have two birthdays in your first renewal period. You will be required to pay the 400.00 renewal we do not have statutory authority to prorate fees. You will also be required to obtain 28 continuing education credits. I’m sorry there is nothing about this on the website. I know it is in the proposed rules in the 300-500 section.

No your new license will expire 10/31/2015 or 2 months shy of 24 months. That means that they are getting $33.33 from you with no benefit on your part.

Of course no different then saying "my hands are tied" with a grin. It is a small amount in our case with minimum incovenience but those whose birthdays fall prior to June it will be more expensive and less time for their CE. A tax without authorization. Damn I don't rember getting or seeing anything about the renewal cycle being changed.

The representative from the Joint Board explained to me that the decision not to prorate renewal fees is due to the ASC prohibition. I read the ASC ruling. It seems to me that their prohibition of prorating the fees paid by the state to the ASC pertains only to the fees paid to the ASC.

Also, we are not getting license certificates. Only a small, postage stamp laminated card. They blame this on cost-cutting.

Me either, This is the first I am hearing about this...

I've been getting mass emails from a ticked off appraiser about this issue (50 or 60 NH appraisers email addresses in each mailing, kudos to Jennifer Cote of Big Dog Appraisals fro accumulating them!). I suggested that this forum address be broadcast in her next email, so hopefully there will be an influx of forum members from NH soon!
