Working RE magazine was somewhat interesting but perhaps the best of the magazine is a letter to the editor from one Matt Cook. He pointed out that on the one hand FNMA's Lyle Radke said, waivers "will only have a small impact on appraisal volume" but OTOH FHFA reported that since 2020 waivers had saved the consumer some $2.5 billion in appraisal costs. That works out to a lost of about $14,000 per appraiser (assuming 35k active appraisers) per year.

Both statements cannot be true. $14,000 is not a small impact upon many appraisers since it comes directly off the bottom line.

If it isn't already true then the day probably isn't far off that it will be true.

Does anyone know if the borrowers really benefit from lower costs? Or, do they pay the same amount? I did work for a bank that was sold. The new owners then charged exactly what we were charging for an appraisal (simple SFR) for in-house use, only they were providing an "evaluation" by an unlicensed party. IF you wanted a real appraiser add $250 to the fee...the borrower saved zero dollars, in fact, if they wanted a professional job they paid a lot more with the new owners.

Well 2 Billion of that was probably going to AMCs so its really less than that.

Haven’t we all see enough from the gse mouthpieces to know that anytime they open their mouth, they are lying?

They could care less about saving borrowers a dime.

do the unethical stakeholders do anything else but lie... :rof:
