MA and regulations for Trainee? Hours?

Hi, new here and I have not taken my course yet for trainee. I am going to be taking them soon and was wondering where I would find the info on a MA "Trainee" and what hours are needed to go to Appraiser? This place is great. Thank you for your help. Also I was told from a friend that he suggests I try to find a mentor first even before getting my courses so I know I have one when I finish my courses. What ya think?
