Just renewed my Maryland license. I wasn't required to demonstrate any CE. For all they know, I never took an updated USPAP or any of the other 40+ hours required.

After navigating the Department of Labor's website (which is like stepping back into 1994 btw), I received this message:

Although you have not been selected for an audit of your continuing education certificates at this time, the Maryland Department of Labor reserves the right to conduct an audit of your records at any given time for any reason. Please maintain your certificates for possible future audits.

Renewing a license in Virginia and DC comes with its own set of challenges, but at least they do their job in the gatekeeping department. Maryland has fallen into last place.

I've had to submit evidence on a couple renewals. I guess people get randomly selected. Maybe higher chance if you renew right up at the renewal date?

Virginia is so good though. They are responsive and renewal fee is only like $100.

Renewing here is easy, you send in your CE certificate via email and they post it, When you get your 28 hours you can then, and only then, renew. Apply, the board reviews that you are compliant and they issue a go-ahead to the website that takes your money. EZ PZ.

pa, just state cont ed credits. but you better have it when you are part of a sample being asked to show it later.

Virginia's site sucks as well, but yeah, they answer emails quickly. DC has come a long way (still pretty bad overall though). I wasn't expecting MD to roll out the red carpet, but not checking CE--this is a first.

Ohio won't renew unless they have proof of your CE on file. Most providers also report it electronically to the state. If I pull up my license. It lists my CE I have taken since licensed

In this state you just check a box where you state, under penalty of perjury, you've completed your CE.

If they audit you and find you've lied, they fine you about $100 for each CE hour that's lacking and your license is suspended until the CE is complete and then you're on probation for a while. As far as I'm concerned, the fines should be $500/hr.

They audited me about 10 yrs ago; had to send in CE certificates. Never heard from them again.

I much rather see them check the Certificates up front. When renewing DC this year I submitted USPAP 2022 and USPAP 2024 and they rejected my total hours because they said that it was a "repeat" class, so only one could be used. So I was able to take another class to submit prior to being approved. If it was a State that checked after the fact, I could have been in violation with fines or worse.

I find the DPOR website fairly easy to navigate.
Curious, what do you find adverse about it?

I think the sites are fine. They do what they need to do. Probably not a big budget for UI, design, or functionality. They are similar in UI and functionality compared to IRS, state comptroller sites, etc.
