MI License Application time frame

Hello all. This is my first post. I have learned and enjoyed my readings here. My question is regarding my application for a state license in Michigan. It takes forever for the ball to finish rolling (at least in my case). I put in my application with 2000 hours of experience. Got a response and forwarded 3 appraisals choosen by licensing. My question is how long will it take the state to review my appraisals before oking me to schedule an exam and after I pass the exam how long will AMP take to contact the state and how long will the state then take before sending out my license. So far this process has been 3 months. Will I be another 3 months. I think this time frame stinks. :x :x

Not sure about Michigan licensing, but three months sounds like an awfully long time. I'd be on the horn asking questions and making sure that all needed information on your situation has been recieved.

I would have thought that 10 days to 2 weeks would have been enough time to respond to you. A month at most.

But I'm a little spoiled. Minnesota does such a good job on this kind of stuff.

It actually takes 6-8 weeks for an application to be processed as mine was in about that time plus a week or two. I called and was told that a response was sent to the wrong address a week or so ago (she even admitted she did it). But did not resend another letter. Talk about a real a--. I was also informed that the response could be faxed to me, later that day. It was not so I called back 2 days later and I was told my fax was not working. Untrue. I told licensing of this and they refused to refax and said it would be mailed. I called the licensing director and informed him and got a reply that he would look into it. I actually got the letter 2 days later. I am now awaiting the response from the review of my appraisals I forwarded as of 10/16/02. I wonder if this will take 6-8 weeks. I do not want to call the boss again and get the evil eye everytime my name comes up in the office.

hal, .....This may seem like more effort than you might want to expend, but have you considered going to your capital city and personally visiting the office where your paper communications and application have been sent ? You speak of "get(ting) the evil eye everytime my name comes up in the office". If you're not there to see it, how do you know you're getting it ? What you are up against is old-fashioned beaurocracy sprinkled with some incompetence and an extra dash of don't-give-a-damn. Could be they are all out deer hunting right now and nothing is going to get done till they return. Visit their office(s) on a Friday morning between 9 and 11:30, after they have had their coffee but before they can go to lunch. Everybody is pumped about the "weekend" and you have the greatest chance of getting their focus to your concerns. You could go straight to the top or follow the paper trail from the bottom to each person who handled your papers along the way. You'll get a direct opportunity to meet these folks, and see your taxpayer dollars at work, and they get to meet you. When folks get "observed on the job" they tend to perform better. That's your chance to get the actions taken you want to see done. Bet you don't get the "evil eye" when you can look directly into theirs ! You'll probably go home with your license in hand, or at least have the confidence that ......they'll be mailing it out in 4 weeks ! Good Luck.

As far as the test through AMP, in Montana, you get your official results printed out for you as soon as you're done taking the computerized test.

I agree with Tom. Go to the top on this one. That time frame seems like an awfully long time. It has been my experience that Michigan has had some very good people working in the real estate and now in the appraisal licensing sections. Not having taken an exam in several years (last one was the FHA test), I’m not sure what you should be looking at but I know the VS licenses are way down. They shouldn’t be overwhelmed with work.
