Missouri Association of Realtorsâ - Appraisal Section
As the saying goes, “Membership has its benefits”
The Missouri Association of Realtorsâ - Appraisal Section was formed to serve the specialized needs of appraisers members of the Missouri Association of Realtorsâ (MAR). In short, our goal is to Represent, Communicate and Educate. To accomplish this we have the following objectives:
·Representing the interests of our members with respect to matters that affect the appraisal profession at the state and national level
·Providing a forum for networking and discussion of areas of interest to appraisal specialists
·Providing liaison with other industry groups in the appraisal and housing industry to preserve and promote the interest of our members
·Offering professional level education programs, seminars and courses to keep its members current on vital issues and to meet state mandated continuing education requirements
How are we accomplishing this?
The Appraisal Section continues to work diligently to ensure that the voice of appraisers is being heard at many levels. In addition to representing the interests of appraisers as seated member of the Missouri Association of Realtorsâ Board of Directors, the Appraisal Section also is a member of the Missouri Appraiser Advisory Council (MAAC), the Missouri Housing Industry Alliance (MHIA) and is represented on the National Association of Realtorsâ - Appraisal Section. Through our participation in these forums, we are working to ensure that the voice of appraisers in the state is being heard locally and on the state and national level.
Representation on Missouri Association of Realtorsâ - Board of Directors
Having representation on the MAR Board of Directors provides a significant opportunity for the positions and concerns of appraisers to be heard and considered. As Realtorâ members of MAR, we are working to ensure that our positions are considered on an equal footing with all Realtorsâ whether they are primarily engaged in the sale of real estate or practice the specialty of real estate appraisal.
Representation on Missouri Appraiser Advisory Council
The Appraisal Section, through its representation on the Missouri Appraiser Advisory Council, is able to provide input to the Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission on proposed changes to rules and regulations affecting the appraisal practice as well as work with other professional appraisal organizations for the betterment of the appraisal profession. We continue to strive for ensuring that the Appraisal Commission has adequate personnel and resources to enforce the appraisal act, rules and regulations.
Representation on Missouri Housing Industry Alliance
The Missouri Housing Industry Alliance offers a unique opportunity for its member organizations to work together to develop and support legislative initiatives beneficial to the housing industry. The Alliance provides a forum for organizations with oftentimes differing objectives to find a common ground for the betterment of the housing industry. In the past year, the collective support of the alliance has been fundamental in the passage of legislation needed to bring Missouri’s appraisal act into conformity with federal mandates. Today, we are working through the complexity of issues relating to mortgage fraud, appraiser coercion and appraiser intimidation.
Continuing Education:
Over the past several years, the Appraisal Section has sponsored affordable quality continuing education. This has included presentations by Fannie Mae on reduced documentation appraisals, approved mandatory courses on USPAP updates, as well as a variety of timely courses dealing with mold, mildew and other environmental issues affecting appraisers. We are continuing to strive to provide similar courses that provide our members with an economical and convenient means to meet mandatory continuing education requirements. While we offer courses to all that are interested, they are offered at significant discounts to our members thereby returning your investment in the Appraisal Section to you in the form of affordable education.

The appraisal profession is in a constant state of change with new challenges being faced everyday.
