I migrated to a new PC (got Vista), and want to transfer my Quicklists, and also my other settings as well. I do not subscribe to Vault. I tried finding the info in the online documentation, which tells how to do it with Vault. Does anyone know how to manually copy the files?

Copy and paste. Onsey, twosey, threesey ...

There is a tech doc on the alamode website that detail the process. I have a new computer ariving Friday, so I will be looking at the process too.

Tom, do you know where "tech docs" are? I don't see them on their Support page. I assume they are something other than the manual which only explains migration through vault.

Mr Rex: You gotta be kidding! :-)

I did it a few months ago, the tech doc on the alamode website will walk you through it, follow step by step or you will screw it up. No copy and paste will not work for this

Im still using Athena but this works for me. Go to the Win2000 folder/Database and copy the TextDB application to the new computer. I switch off from desktop to laptop sometimes and use this method to keep them in sync.

It used to be easy!

This is where I went:

I actually gave up for today on this...haven't been able to restart the sql server.

Good luck,
Jenn

When I upgraded to a new machine a few weeks ago, with Vista 64 bit, I had a couple of issues. First was an issue with the SQL server. It was not where Total thought it should be. I was able to work through it pretty quickly with a tech. That issue was causing the quicklists and my "appraiser database" (a database of 1) and my client list database to not show up. After the tech (His name was Gary) called me, we fixed it in like 10 seconds. To move everything over, I just used their tech document and everything went simple. I used an external hard drive to move it all. The SQL server was the only hang up.

I just did this over the weekend with a little help and I mean little help from tech support. They emailed me the link to the docs on their website. I too have a new system. However, my was downgraded to XP.

What I did was copy the Win2000 file on the C drive to an external hard drive. Once completed, I pasted the copy of the Win2000 file on the E drive to the C drive of the new system. Worked flawlessly.

my computer
c drive
find win2000,
right click,
select copy

go to e, d, or whatever external hard drive desigination
right click and paste
when done copying, do the reverse to install on new computer!!

Moving Quicklists to a New PC

I followed the instructions in the Tech Notes. To use the Tech Notes, I believe you have to register with the a la mode on line support. Register, search tech notes for Quick Lists, and there are very well-written instructions. You use a utility that A la mode provides, export the list and then import it on your new computer. It worked flawlessly for me.
