One of my two ACI licenses is installed on my desktop.
The other license would be installed on a laptop that I might purchase.
ACI tech support advised that I could work on the same file from either device but only by e-mailing myself a specific file, unless a network is created professionally, although that would work only if the two devices were in close proximity, because ACI isn't based on a cloud technology.

Am I understanding the scenario correctly?

Alternatively, here are a few scenarios:
1. Run remote desktop software on your desktop and remote access the desktop via the software (low cost or free depending on version of windows).
2. Setup a vpn. There are business class routers that could be configured to do that by a local technician. That would create a secure link between your home network and your laptop. (secure but a little more expensive to setup and maintain).
3. Purchase a Windows remote instance on Amazon AWS/EC2 and load your ACI and all your other software to that instance only. Use that instance rather than your desktop/laptop via remote access into it. Using RDP on Ec2 instance would allow you to use any system IE Mac, Google chrome laptop, Iphone, ipad, tablet, Google Phone, and windows laptop to access the system. (Low initial cost, but the instance lease might get pricey if you save alot of data).

If you plan on adding users, there is another option via Amazon EC2 and AWS, but that gets complicated and pricey to setup. Sounds like it is just you using the software.

unless a network is created professionally,
That seems strange. I run Clickforms on my desktop and tablet. (can use it on multiple devices with same license). I just access each device through my home network. I can open files from my tablet on my desktop and vice versa

Similar here. I have a computer that is just for insurance in case the main one dies. I back up my files to it through my network. Which is basically they are both connected to the same router. Nothing fancy.
