Hi Forum,

First timer here who really needs help. I am finding it difficult to pass the NJ Residential State Exam to graduate from my apprenticeship. I have two college degrees and graduated Summa come Laude (so, I am rather interlligent)yet have failed the state exam twice by just 3-5 questions. Can anyone give me suggestive self-help prep books that they would recommend or perhaps tutoring other than my boss, who seems not to want to be bothered?

Study Guide

Jason,

I am from NJ and was a certified general there many years ago. Use the "Questions & Answers to Help Pass the Real Estate Appraisal Exams" by Fisher & Tosh. Available in most Barnes and Nobel.

Good Luck

Nj State Exam

Thanks alot Dennis and Cres....I will purchase it this week. Anything to guarantee to pass and not pay the embezzlement fee that state charges to take this exam.

test taking

I feel for you- I'm now getting my paperwork together to send into the State - (Massachusetts). There is a lot of paperwork pulling this together. The State changed to the log set up too, so that took adjusting from points to actual hours. I have purchased LearningAppraising.com and have the Questions and Answers book as well. So I'll be studying.

NJ State Exam

Hi Jason,

The testing requirements have definitely changed . Previously , I believe that only an overall total passing score was sufficient . Now you must pass each segment of the test i.e. cost approach , market conditions etc. You should have received a test score sheet with a breakdown of each category. I would concentrate on the low score areas and forget about the rest. I used a book from Henry Harrison which included practice tests. Check the worms and forms website for the name . I just lent it out to another appraiser to study for the certified test . Lastly, I experienced a similar situation when I took the test for certification in 2005.

Good Luck

HI,

I experienced the same problem with the state certification exam I took today. I missed by 5 points. Ahhhh I used the Henry Harrison Forms and Worms book "How to pass any General or Residential Appraisal Exam Certification-Licensing" Ya...it didnt help- and I studied A LOT!!! I guess I will try the other book. Good luck to you!

Jason,

If you are still having problems go to Hondros.com. They have a product called CompuCram. I passed my License and Certification 1st time on both. It is setup just like the State Exams.

Too bad it's not as easy as passing the private pilot license exam. At least you can buy the full question bank for the aviation exam. You know, the average grade for the written private pilot exam is still 75%. Remember that the next time you are about to take off during a thunderstorm.

Good luck!!

I used the Hondros program also- they have a pass gaurentee and if you fail (after getting 80% or above on their quizzes) you will get your money back. Pretty good gaurentee.
