New Toy On The Market

Ordered me a new toy yesterday. A hand held scanner. About the size of a kitchen table knife. It lays flat on the paper you want to scan and scans a total of 8" wide. Just move from top to bottom of page - about 4 seconds. It can hold up to 100 pages in its flash memory. Then you plug into your USB port and load to your computer.

I do a lot of geneology work, so I hope this helps in the ole court house with those great big ole books. Hey it might even help in the appraisal business as well. A quick scan of a blue print when you are at the owners home, etc. I guess I will be able to use this as business expense after all.

I'll let you all know what I think of it, once I have tried it out. Their website is www.docupen.com. Cost is $200 clams.

Sounds like a neat toy. Unfortunatly around here the courthouses are dumping the paper records after they digitize them (microfish, pdf, etc.)

I checked it out....Kool! Seems to me, (IMHO) for the money, you'll get a lot more functional use for the dollars spent ($199) out of the Docupen than that "Krisko"? ($399) measuring thing.

I'm gonna get me one (after you test/approve yours).

My scanner arrived this afternoon. Hope to make a report about its use to everyone by Monday.

I got it and tried it. It works as advertised. It is a little awkward to figure out the speed at which you drag the scanner, but practice and smooth steady pressure seem to get it.

Neat toy, I definitely see uses for it.

200 appraisals requiring 2 pages each of legal description (at 50 cents per copy from the Courthouse) pays for the scanner! I just might need to get one!

Just curious....don't you guys ever just use your digital camera (on macro) to take pics of the docs you need? Works fine for me.

Sounds interesting. But the architects plans I've seen were all well over 8" wide. :mrgreen:

closeups with the Digicam also work.

Re: camera comment. I use my camera all the time for photos of documents. Even have special setup in my office with blue lights to take even nicer photos.

I think of this little scanner as another nice toy oops tool.
