New Toy...

Just picked up a GPS toy. Can anyone tell me how it is suppose to help me with my appraising?

I have been using a Garmin Emap for about 2 years or more and couldn't live without it. It saves me time in hunting addresses, making wrong turns, and really aids in locating properties, particularly in rural areas. It saves my tracks for 55 days, so I can, if need be, get a long/lat for my flood maps, or census maps or even location maps, if need be ..... I seriously love it and mark it up there with my digital camera and my Disto as must have tools..... Once you get familar with it and begin to depend on it, you will wonder how you got along without it. Congrats on the new toy and remember ..... He who dies with the most toys wins!!! :rofl: :rofl:

I've mentioned before .. in NY, now, we have GPS co-ordinates provided for each tax parcel. Locates center of parcel, so may be less valuable for large parcels .. however, did five rural comparables yesterday in Herkimer County and was smack-on for each one ..

I feel like Doug does. I couldn't live without mine. I got almost everyone I know to get one and they all love it. It is absolutely the best $$ I've spent on appraising toys. And I have lots of appraising toys

I have two. One hand held and one one a lowrance GPS/Depthfinder that can be put in the car.

If you are in a large, metro area and know your way around, they arent much use. For those of us who spend a lot of time in the middle of nowhere, they are fantastic aids.

I got the Lowrance Go2 which I paid $99 for. The original reason for buying it was for when I was out riding my ATV. However I had heard of people using it for when they do their appraisals. I unfortunately fall into your first catagory where I live in a well developed area. I'm sure it will be great when I am out in the boonies...

Not around here. They work great in the city as well. We have lots of one way streets in our cities. Without the Garmin, you can end up driving block after block looking for a street to drive up on.

You can also get it to tell you how far schools and shopping are from any property.

What other kind of toys do you have, Kate?
