I know this might be better in the education forum but I just know it'll be hijacked by residential appraisers arguing over something or other.

Can anyone refer an online CE vendor with commercial real estate courses beyond the basic core (cap, HBU, sales, cost, etc.)?

I've spent a couple of hours surveying vendors and have come up with the old regression course, one on environmental, and that's about it (not even from the same vendor). The rest is pretty much for residential. I don't even see a DCF online.

Thanks in advance!

Appraisal University has some commercial courses and are approved in many states. I took an on line course this week with them and I was surprised, it was very good. The quality of the instruction is very good as well, the instructors are the AI and MA Board of Real Estate Appraisers instructors in the Greater Boston area, many with their designations in both commercial & residential. It's worth the look. Good Luck.

It all came together with your reply!

Appraisal University...
Thanks, I literally just hung up the phone after talking to them about their annual enrollment concept. They're offering retail center valuation and a site course for Florida. They have two more coming up - office and something else I don't recall, which will fit nicely in the next cycle. The price and convenience is too good to pass up with your recommendation. *Thread Closed* ha-ha.

Not sure if you would have any interest in this, but IRWA was recently approved in Illinois for CE, so there is a decent chance that they are also approved in Florida. The valuation of partial acquisitions class is pretty good I hear, although I doubt it is online.

I agree, CE offerings seem a bit weak, but this is the first cycle that I haven't been able to use my MAI or cert. gen. classes to count for CE, so maybe this is normal. AI has some classes online that look interesting, such as small hotel/motel valuation and introduction to green buildings, but they may or may not be approved in your state and you may not have much interest in it anyways.

Most online is worthless anyway, so why does it matter?

I am getting a lot from the retail course I opened this afternoon. It is far more informative than the live course I took four years ago. Much thanks for the recommendation. Much cheaper too.

I'm in my license renewal cycle for both licenses and every course I have taken this year has been empathizing "Best Practices". The discussions have been the forms are for the GSE's, the addendums are to cover our USPAP obligations. I took the Appraisal University Practices & Pitfalls for the R.E. Appriasers, it really was a good class.

Unless it's an Institute class or one from UGA, it's pretty lame... I just sit on my azz for 14 hours and thank you sir, good for another year.

It's really hard to find CE that doesn't make you want to blow your brains out ... I think the pendulum has swung way too far in terms of education. 300 hours to get certified? 28 hours every 2 years? Really? Now some bs "trainee" class? It's not rocket science ...

There may be additional options for getting CE. In NY, attending an AI chapter meeting often counts for CE because they often have a speaker that discusses various industry issues (Note: The chapter handles the paperwork for CE approval). I've heard that in some states attending the State REA Board meeting counts for CE.

You can also have courses approved for CE. For example, if you wanted to take a college course that have relevance to your profession, you can fill out the appropriate paperwork prior to taking the course to see if they'll approve it for CE.
