i am thinking about getting out of the report writing portion of appraising. Anyone know where to apply to be a property data collector?

If you're going to go in this direction then it might pay to identify and train in skills that will be a value-add to simply carrying a camera or measuring device.

They don't get paid very much. And your expertise may not be sufficiently appreciated.

If you wish to go this route, don't tell them you are an appraiser and make it known you are desperate with no expertise.

Last I heard was the class valuation pays between $35 to $45 per house. They claim it will take you 1 hour to do the whole thing lol. So to them you are making $35 to $45 an hour. Enjoy! They don't want appraisers doing these. They want bottom of the barrel prices in order to get the most profit.

I heard fees of $75-$100 but who knows. Home inspectors and RE agents do them and compete for the work. Idk how much volume here is or if it is sporadic.

It’s not even a real job. Made up out of thin air. Used to need an appraisal certification to do appraisal work.

I went on a spy mission and joined one of those FB groups to see what they do and discuss. It was beyond bizarre. The fees they get for interior and exterior assignments are pathetic. The only bright side is if you're looking to invest when the market tanks, you can discover which banks are relying on those garbage "valuations" to list their REO properties. If you join one of the groups on FB you'll see soon enough what they're paying and required to do.

In answer to your question, I would start with the following: Voxtur and Beacon will prolly pay the highest fees. Clear Capital and Class will do the most volume. Hope this helps and best of luck out there!.

You might also try Mueller and Single Source - they're huge in the data collection space, and do stuff other than for GSE PDC.
