Proposes a 2500' setback for drilling, basically a freeze on all drilling. The result will be higher taxes, higher fuel costs, and a huge outflow of jobs and investment. As drilling stops, production falls, truckers, construction, cafes, industrial buildings will languish Both governor candidates oppose it but likely to pass. If it does, other states to follow and ten years from now we will be paying Euro prices for gas and getting 60% of our oil from overseas. Rural and the poor will be hit the worst.

?? Why would 1/2 mile setback from road(?) result in all that havoc?
Sure it's relatively deep, but on a few hundred acres.......

It would be more than f few hundred acres. 1/2 square mile = 32,000 acres. That is only on one side of the site. What about the other sides of the site?

Check your math 320 acres. In this area with mile square road patterns and patchwork ownership that setback does not leave much usable space.
The closest comparison in this area is the 1500 feet setback for wind towers, this essentially limits wind tower to one per about 40 acres. The newest towers are taller and have larger generators, 4 megawatts each.

Most I talk to seem to feel "2,500' is too far" (I will not vote for it), but i was curious if the potential concerns aren't somewhat over dramatized... wouldn't they drill anyway, a little further back, utilizing directional drilling, that most are already using. (i.e cost will be moderately higher, but not "stop" drilling.) Again, I don't support the bill but know of several oil/gas fields they are accessing from adjacent sites at least 1./4 mile away (as explained to me, when appraising nearby parcel). I'm seeing drilling / extracting sites with 8+ heads going in all directions (apparently).
Oil and gas has been good to Northern Colorado... (and they've only blown up a few houses!)
