I got an order for the property which the owner is a govt employee ... the property profile could not be found in public record, as well as title data such as RealQuest, Fidelity Title. However, by searching the owner's name through the county's record, it shows the property existed but it was protected by Govt Code Sect. 6254.21 i.e. no address, no info. provided.

Anyone have idea how to obtain the information (on-line) without waiting for LO or HO providing prelim/title report ?

BTW, Orange CA appraisers, do you know whether or not the County Assessor office provide an "on-line" property profile search as in LA, San Bernardino Counties ? I have searched on County Assessor Home Page ... but there is no sight of it.

Cheers,

Ran into this same thing today. The only thing I could do was use SiteX and Realquest. Data's not as good, but it's there. How about Dataquick?

Here is what CA says about the act. Sounds kind of Orwellian to me, or right out of LA LA land

Privacy: Public Officials: This law prohibits a person, business or association from posting or displaying, on the Internet, the home address or telephone number of any elected or appointed official if that official has made a written demand not to disclose his or her information. It limits the liability of an interactive computer service or access provider under these provisions. It also adds to the list of elected or appointed officials covered by all of the foregoing provisions state administrative law judges, federal judges, and federal defenders, Members of the United States Congress, and appointees of the President. See Government Code § 6254.21.

Whatever happened to government employees/appointees working for the people. And whatever happened to public disclosure.

Wow, Missouri passed a similar law, recently, and our counties were set to take down all online property information in order to comply.

Then the state hurried up and back pedaled and made an exception for county property data. Sheesh.

Any SOB who wants to hide from his constituents will probably steal from them.

This from the land of the paparazzi? And Cali elected officials get the Witness protection treatment? I have got to visit Oz sometimes, they have some novel ideas out there.

Why Hide?

Two friends are protected by this law. (Yes, I have friends... Even more that these two.)

One is a retired ADA from Santa Clara County, CA. She has put away LOTS of MURDERERS.

The other is a retired Medical Examiner from Sacramento County, CA. He has indirectly put away LOTS of MURDERERS.

Who do you think THEY are hiding from?

Well, Jeffrey, are ADA's elected? Are medical examiners?

From whom are city councilmen hiding? And why?

Our police officers and judges have long taken advantage of this. I've done several jobs for officers - digging deep will often turn up some old record. If my findings were not enough, I've just had the office get the records for me.

I have no issue with it. In fact, I'd like to do it. I've often wondered when a po'ed HO will come knocking at my door upset that I didn't get his/her value.

I sometimes think that it is too easy to find people nowdays. Stalkers must love the online records.

Is the borrower's name Mulder or Sculley?
