Are there good courses out there related to Yellow Book? If so, which ones have you all taken and which do you recommend for a residential appraiser just starting off in eminent domain work?

Thanks in advance!

Here the yellow book is a set of standards for measuring and calculating GLA that is published by the NC Real Estate Commission. Not sure if that's the same yellow book you are referring to.

I think you are talking about different appaisal materials. As to right of way condemnation work, International Right of Way Association has literature and some course work. Their magazine may be helpful.

I do not know of a yellow book course that is geared for residential work. Both the appraisal institute and Am Soc of Farm managers and Rural Appraisers have a Yellow Book course. I took both and probably obtained better info from Am Soc of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Course. They teach their course in Denver, once a year. Again, it is not really a residential course.

Courses on the "yellow book" or Uniform Appraisal Standards for Federal Land Acquisitions (UASFLA) are available from various providers. They are usually two days. The Appraisal Institute has courses scheduled 3/7/14 in Orlando, and 10/2/14 in Sacramento, and they will be probably be adding others. You might call your local chapter and ask them to present the course. ASFMRA has one 9/22/14 in Denver. As usual, the individual instructor has the greatest effect on the quality of the course. I think most people select a course based on convenience of location. Like USPAP, the same standards are applicable for residential work, so that is not an issue. It is helpful to read it before attending the course. Good luck.

You can download a copy of the book from a gov website.. google it up

Denis... Are we going to have a road trip to Denver next spring? :)

I just attended this class in November in Iowa - the Appraisal Institute class and instructor were outstanding, and I learned a lot.
