Anyone seeing an increase in business with lower rates? I am not. I have been told the work is coming, but have yet to see it. I think we will all be working against lower values, meaning less equity, meaning many of our reports will not make it past the lenders desk. It will be interesting to see how the "comp check" request goes. I imagine it will be as brisk as ever. If it helps you out, I am getting out of the business. One less appraiser to compete with. If anyone needs collections services, let me know, I am now selling for the best collections service out there, at the lowest rates anywhere.

Sorry to hear that Tony. Are you considering keeping your license active for supplemental income?

I was really excited about getting into this field as a trainee in early 2006 but it has been nothing like I thought it would be. I'm refering to the prestige of the profession and incentive to excel in quality and knowledge. I couldn't find an ethical lender to save my life (Maybe some exist but they must all be taken already!)

I've only done 12 appraisals this whole year but I'm happy to say they were the most stress free appraisals I've ever done. I managed to find one client that appreciates an honest appraisal and they pay me to do my job regardless. No request for comp checks or pressure. The little extra income has come in handy but I moved on to a full time 9-5 a little over a year ago. I enjoy appraising so as long as my supervisor will have me I'll continue to do the few that come my way.

As far as collections - man I can use a good bill collector. I'm still trying to collect on a judgement awarded to me against a client from mid 2007. Can't get the deadbeat to pay. I think persistance will pay off and I'll get it eventually but man is it a pain in my !@#.

Sorry to hear you're leaving the biz Tony. I may be right behind you. I'm weighing my options right now. I really don't see much future in this biz. I probably will keep my license and even upgrade it to Cert just in case. That said, December, and now January have been the busiest I"ve been all year.

There has been a slight increase in business.mostly refi but a few sales.This is certainly a good time to buy if you really need a house.Interest rates are near 5%

We have picked up, but we were lucky to have picked up a bank client that doesn't use an AMC...who knew they were still out there!

Hey Tony,

I wanted to send you some information I got this morning. Actually, this is for anyone having a rough time and wanting to ride it out. StreetLinks National Appraisal Services is hiring appraisers for it's quality control department.

They sent me a letter saying they pay $34k-$50k (which most likely means $35k!), with paid vacation and health insurance. They're located in Greenwood Indiana (973 Emerson Parkway, Suite C).

Please don't take this the wrong way. It's just an option I saw. I know it's not a lot, but may be better than quitting all together. Either way, I wish you the best!
