Hi all,
I am an appraisal apprentice logging residential hours in New Jersey. I have been offered an opportunity to learn commercial appraising from a commercial appraiser.
I have heard that I need to have my residential appraisal license before I can start logging commercial hours. Is this true? Isn't it possible to log both commercial and residential hours at the same time as an apprentice?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Marie

Hello Marie;

It really depends on your state regulations. How can we help you if you dont tell us where you are????????

I can never understand why people don't list their location. At least the state would narrow location down a bit.

Marie this is not a rant, but it is frustrating when we want to help and you didnt help us help you.

Regards

Hal

Marie:

Someone has given you WRONG information. It is not a requirement that you be licensed as a residential appraiser in NJ before you can log commercial appraisal hours.

For a certified general license in NJ you need 3,000 hours in not less than 30 months. The state has a very detailed log which requires you to indicate what approaches were included in each and every non residential (1 -4 family) report. In fact you do not have to appraise one single family to satisfy the requirements for certified general.

One of my employees recently received experience approval from the NJ Board. The board selected reports from the log for review.

I don't know where in the state you are located, but if you call my offfice on Monday (I'm in court on TUE, WED & FRI) I'll be glad to point you in the right direction.

My office is in Woodbridge. Tel # 732-636-7474.

Hello Marie:

I must apologize for the egg on my face. You clearly indicated that you are in NJ. The only thing I can offer as an explaination for my comment is that I had been reading alot of messages yesterday, and a number of them did not list location. So I guess I read yours in haste and lumped you in with the others.

I have just finished sitting in the corner for 45 mins as my punishment.

Regards

Hal
