Relocating from Texas with my significant other for grad school and/or law school while she is completing her second residency at ETSU. I'm a certified residential appraiser in Arizona currently through 2014 (reciprocity with TN is available). Not interested in starting from the ground up with my business again... really don't believe I'll have the time with the schooling I'll be undertaking - running a business correctly is a full time job and some.
I originally worked with Forsythe Appraisals, LLC, from 2005-2007 prior to running my own firm from 2007-2011. My old branch manager mentioned that they have an opening in Nashville to run their branch, but that's a 4.5+ hour commute from Johnson City. Curious to see what the job market for appraisers is in the Johnson City area as well as the housing market (my girlfriend would like to buy there).
In Arizona, I worked mainly on upper bracket properties while undertaking the litigation side of appraisals during my transition to a different job in Texas. I've done fairly well with my non-appraisal position in Texas - roughly clearing $80K this past year, however, my girlfriend is a doctor and the bread winner currently... so I'm headed to TN with her hoping higher education will level our playing fields. If anyone has time to help a fellow appraiser out during this transition, maybe you'll end up with a part time employee for a couple years while I'm in school or at the least, someone to toss back a beer or two on the weekends (by the way, my references in AZ will vouch for the quality of the work I produce).
