I was asked if I do retrospective appraisals, but the fee seemed low $250, its for a handful of estate properties for the estates accountant. I just know that they would be some work. What does one charge? Is it a regular fee plus for additional work?

not enough details........

Complexity of Retro Assignments typically realize premiums. ....."a handful" typically yields a small discount for volume. 60% of my practice is Legal; standard fee double lender fee. retro more than 2 years add 100 per year. the market is what the market will bear. multiple assignments perhaps warrant 10% discount on each. compare vs attorney 100-400 per hour estate admin fee........Expertise is only valuable if yu make it valuable.

I did a divorce appraisal on a house in Feb 2006,
got full fee, plus my "legal" surcharge.

Then the owner wants to use it for financing....
that was for $200 (convert from old to new 1004).

Last week she calls and says her lawyer screw up
with the new bankrupcy law and needs a retro
appraisal to May 2005. I tell the attorney it'll be
$350, but send the money first.

Like the Diamond Almonds grower, a can a week is
all we ask....a $1000+ a house is all I ask.

Retros can be pretty easy unless you have to go back
years. Before good software data bases I had to
go back to old reports.
