I've been thinking about using a PDA for inspections, sketching. First, is it possible (sketch software) and, second, how does it work (timewise, etc)?

Thanks

Roger

I haven't found any that work but have tried probably 20 or so generic sketch programs for the Palm. I don't think there are any appraisal sketch programs for the PDA, just for the Pocket PC.

Try www.palmpilotarchives.com or www.pilotgear.com. I'm looking specifically for a sketch program that allows the sketch to go beyond the extent of the screen. It's just too difficult to have to zoom in and out at the same time you draw. Try the CAD software type of categories too...

Roger, several members of this forum commented in the past that sketching is particularly ackward on a PDA, especially when it comes to complex sketches, as the dimension values tend to overlap on the small screen and become unreadable.
I haven't used one myself, but I can picture what they mean...
I would rather use the device for data collection.
Do a search on this forum for PDA and Palm for more info.

Alamode has pocket Apex, but I just did not have enough room on screen to draw a simple 2,000 SF house. If you were measuring rectangular homes with no turns, then it would be fine, but I am just not that lucky.

EX. I was drawing on my PDA with pocket apex. I had a covered porch with a fireplace extension. 6.8 R, 2.4 up, 5.3 right, 2.4 down, 6.3 right, 12.2 up. When I was finished I was suspicious that I may have entered one of the dimensions wrong. I could not tell by looking at the screen because the diminsions were all superimposed all over each other. This was 3/4 of the way around home. I jettisoned the PDA and got my clipboard, because I spent more time trying to figure out the mess on the screen than it takes to sketch on my clipboard.

Now, If CompUSA will ever get re-stocked on the Tablet PC, I will be using it with full screen Apex.
