For the solar panel people here, are yous taking this into account.

Homeowner desperately seeks advice after Tesla hits them with 5-figure quote for unexpected maintenance: 'All of my savings … are wiped out' first appeared on The Cool Down.

The Redditor took to r/TeslaSolar to seek advice on how they should approach a potentially costly roof repair while navigating their established solar lease. However, it is wise to make sure that your roof is able to withstand the next couple of decades before making a long-term investment. With seven-plus years left on their solar panel lease, the original poster was desperate for advice on how they should handle their situation after Tesla said it would cost $12,000 to remove and reinstall the panels.

Wow!! The cost of a new roof plus $12,000? I bet that warm and fuzzy feeling they had about saving the polar bears (and the tax credits) isn't so warm now.

I thought a lease would have the contractor take care of it.

Bull**** I can have most solar temp removed to install new roof for $3,000 or less. Some roofer is trying to pad his prices by $12,000.

Why? The problem isn't with the solar panels. It is a roof problem not caused by the solar panels. He has 7 years left on his lease but his roof is now 30 years old. Don't know how long the lease was. But to try and get 30 years out of a shingle roof. Idiot

I don’t know of any roofer in this area that would remove and reinstall solar panels. They would most likely have to go back to the vendor unless they want to avoid any kind of warranty. But I suppose, in your area, there are a lot more solar panels and qualified installers.

Placing solar panels on the roof seems stupid on the face of it. Only if lucky enough that the roof is optimal to catch the most sunlight does it make any sense at all. I'd place the panels where they maximize the sunlight exposure. I drive by a place where trees shade half the array in the afternoon. That makes no sense.
