Three southwest Missouri family members have been sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay restitution for their roles in a nearly $11 million mortgage fraud scheme.
Prosecutors said 58-year-old Charles Walker, his 59-year-old wife, Linda, and their 36-year-old son, Lee, are among 17 defendants involved in the scheme to purchase residential properties at inflated prices. The buyers got money, and the conspirators received kickback payments totaling about $4.3 million. Most of the properties have gone into foreclosure.
Charles Walker was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison. Linda Walker was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison, while Lee Walker was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.
