Next time, tell the guy that you "made the drop as normal, the pictures are great, and if he has any problems notify Washington" ....then ask for his green card or evidence of being a legal citizen.
thanks for the feedback everyone.....this is an area where safety is my concern.......I've never cared about photo quality. I currently use a Sony Movica which has a view finder and can be used differently, but you still
end up “pointing” the camera in most cases while inside a vehicle......what I want to get away
from is having any object in my hand which appears to be “pointing” at a house. Ben you’re right
about the shoot/drive method.....I often shoot the pics while in motion, then drive by again to look
and see what the exterior condition looks like. I also use the zoom frequently......with that said
ideally, a small periscope or detachable type lens will suit my needs the most...the one Ben mentioned is
probably what I’m going to start shopping for. Maybe I'll make a cold call on a private detective agency and see if they'll share their methods.
I have a HP Jourdna PDA with the digi camera. It can be held at arm's length, and looks like a small clipboard from a distance. The screen is the viewfinder, so that you do not have to hold it like a camera while snaping your comp photos.
Works for me.
I'll never forget the day the 90+- year old lady, toddled down her driveway waving her walking stick, yelling 'You stay right there untill the police get here', as I was snapping a comp pic.
I waited about 15 minuites, but they never showed. Figured that it wasn't the first time they had heard from her.
Could use a laptop conected to a digital camera with swivel mount on the top of your car. Line up the photo with the laptop zoom in and out with that take photo.
My own personal is that I take them from my car refuse to drive up driveways to take the photo in rural areas. And I do use the MLS photo if there are people in the subject's picture. (I state that on the report).
Ive been known to tell curios homeowners that I work for Welcome Wagon and they are the featured home this month. "If the BONUS fruit basket and wine of the month doesnt arrive within the next week, please call our office ASAP!"
Scroll down a bit, and see how small this thing is. Put it on your hat brim. Hook it up to your video cam, analog or digital. get every house on the street and pick the right one out later. Nobody will know. 8)
This summer I had some nice looking magnetic signs made for my truck with my logo on them. I think they were around 75 bucks? Since I drive a pickup I now look like another contractor or repair man when slowly driving through the hood.
Not that I ever had that many people come out on me, but so far no one has asked me what I am doing. I think the signs make you look less like someone up to no good to most people.
