Looking at an online retailer and saw the Stabila line of laser measuring tools. How do they compare to Disto?

Also, is a tripod necessary for measuring with a laser?

We have two Distos and Fat Max, but the new A5 Disto is the way to go.

No, you don't need a tripod. The reason I like the new A5 Disto is that the targeting is much better than any other laser that is out there. To measure outside corners that don't have a gutter, simply carry a pad of PostIts to stick on the corner to use as a target.

No tripod needed. the A5 is a great suggestion

It sounds as if the laser needs a corner at the end of the building, as in along the gutter. Will the D5 require target plates on all buildings that lack a corner (as in concrete panels, etc)?

And also, the D8 pushes bluetooth. Can the D5 tranmit measurements to a PC and if so, does it operate off of a USB connection?

All lasers need a target to reflect off of, if it has gutters those work great if not that's when I brake out the PostIt. I have a set of the metal and plastic corner targets but they are never in the car when I need them or they slid under the seat and I cant' find them. The PostIts are just handy and I keep several pads in the glove box.

I dont think the D5 can store or transmit the measurements to the PC. If you get the A8 you will also need a program like the Apex Nexus program to take advantage of the bluetooth.
