This is on the new URAR. Storm Sash is just not a term I've heard (I'm still an associate appraiser, and my supervisory doesn't know either). My Supervisory wants me to put "Windows" under Materials/Conditions .

I would like to know what the storm sash is. Is it the storm window or is it the frame it's held in? And why would it be insulated?

It is the frame of the window. You use hangers to hang screens or storm windows from it.

Window sash.

I would assume that they are asking if it has storm windows.

I would think someone is a bit confused who wrote the forms, or maybe I am.

Main Entry: storm window

Function: noun
: a sash placed outside an ordinary window as a protection against severe weather -- called also storm sash

Sash- the framework into which a window is set

Billy and Ray gave good answers. However, I find it hard to undertand that you're in Iowa and don't know about a storm sash or storm window. Strange.

I knew about the storm window. And my guess was either "sash" referred to the window itself or the frame.

In Iowa, our apprentice portion doesn't fall after we pass the state exam, it can be before. I've worked with my supervisory for the past 9 years - and am just now taking the classes. The old forms just addressed the storm windows, not the sash - so my experience was limited on this one.

Thank you, Billy, for the helpful definition.
