Anyone have any study tips for me? I am taking the FHA exam later this month.

I have not taken any classes, don't have any books, or links. Help?

How did you do it?

Read & Re Read the newest edition of the rule book, TRY finding a FHA seminar in your area new rules as of 2 Jan 2006

You need to go on line with HUD and order some of their handbooks. They are free. You need at least the following: 4150.1 Rev-1, Valuation Analysis for Home Mortgage Insurance, 4150.2, Valuation Analysis for Home Mortgage Insurance 1-4 Unit Dwellings, 4905.1 Rev-1 Minimum Property Standards for Existing 1-4 Family Housing. Also, down load Mortgagee Letter 2005-48 and the attachment. These should get you started.

Why not take a course? It counts as continuing ed.

The following is cut and pasted from an e-mail sent to me by HUD. Like the others, I suggest you sign up for this free service.

Message for Appraisers on FHA's Appraiser Exam:

Due to the recent reforms to FHA's appraisal protocol, it has become necessary to update the FHA Appraiser Examination. The examination will be updated to reflect changes resulting from FHA's adoption of four of Fannie Mae's revised appraisal reporting forms and the release of Mortgagee Letters 2005-34 and 2005-48. To this end, administration of the examination will be halted January 1, 2006 and will resume February 6, 2006. Prometric will continue to administer the examination for FHA in 2006. HUD regrets any inconvenience caused by this temporary stoppage of the examination.

If you have any questions about the appraiser exam, please do not reply to this email. Please contact your local HUD Homeownership Center (HOC). You can find a directory of states that are serviced by each HOC on the web at: http://www.HUD.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hoc/hsghocs.cfm

I think I would start by making sure you get the "revised" testing data. You might consider giving this lady a call. She was very kind. When I called for assistance, she seemed more then happy to help with some very useful phone numbers, contact info and links. Whenever I asked her something she didn't know she usually knew someone else at HUD/FHA who did.

Since your location is not listed, I don't know if she will be in the right region for your area or not? If she isn't, she can probably tell you who is.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your test.
