Tired of being ripped off! Any suggestions for an internet fax?

I use a 500 min Vonage line with Brother MFP that has an auto feed and will scan, print, copy and send and receive faxes and will convert (received faxes) them to PDF. I believe that you can "print to fax" with it but have never used it that way since I have an old copy of Winfax Pro (not produced any more).

Doesn't XP have a built in fax program?

OK guys, stupid question. I send everything email, but my wife uses the fax for her business too. How do you "fax" out?

If the document is in the computer, simply attach it like an e-mail attachment. If its a paper document (old school) scan it and fax it like an e-mail attachment, but it goes to their fax like any other fax unless they are doing Internet fax too. Does that make sense?

I dunno, I've been in the sun today, and 2 coats of Beam and aloe have clouded my thinking.:new_all_coholic:

Took out the fax machine and land line 3 years ago. Dropped my efax account over a year ago. Have'nt missed either. EVERYONE in this business has email and should know how to use it. I tell the very few that say they can only fax to mail me the document and I will scan it and email it back to them. Paying for efax service is like recording CDs onto cassettes for your car. Waste of time and money when there is something better.

www.packetel.com unlimited incoming for $3.95 per month, never had any problems. And now they are also offering outgoing for approx 5 cents per page outgoing.

That is one of those "everyone's practice must be like mine" statements. I don't use mine that much, either, but when it is needed, there is no doubt it is necessary. I get no orders faxed to me. But, I do get courthouse documents faxed from time to time. And, I get several types of documents (government programs, etc.) from time to time. Also, one of the appraisers I share a significant amount of data with prefers the fax.

All of those things will change eventually, but that is years down the road. None of those situations involves electronic copies and the people sending me the data would generally prefer faxing or snail mail. In order to get the data quicker, I prefer the fax.

No doubt that for some people there is little to no need for a fax. But, like so many things, one situation does not cover everyone.

I just closed my Efax account with "E-Fax". When I started, it was free. Then the free ran out, and it was 16.95/mo to get unlimited incoming faxes and .10 a page(or minute actually) to send.

<snip>

So, my question is...

Who is a reputable company to do internet faxing with and what are the REAL costs?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, we stuck with a land line but put the fax machine in the closet.

I set my boss up with an internal fax modem and he hasn't looked back since. Still requires a land line, but that also means he can use that as an extra outgoing land line and just have a cell phone for business. In an emergency (computer crash) he can swap his older fax machine in easily. Sending he can either type in a document and send, send PDF as a fax, or scan and fax (with cover letters) all by using software. Since it all goes straight to the computer no paper is wasted on ads or "nuisance faxes".

Disadvantage: initial cost of the modem and continuing cost of the land line.
Advantage: "back up" outgoing land line and emergency phone land line (for 911 calls, calls when all cell phone batteries mysteriously die all on the same day, etc)

Onefax.com

ONEFAX cost $12 for unlimited faxes and a 800#

MYFAX it is.

10 bucks a month...there is a limit on sending a receiving, but it is a limit I will never reach unless someone accidentally sends me 200 orders in the same month.

888 number, email delivery already in PDF form, no conversion software to download.

It's got a good beat and I can dance to it, I give it an 8 Mr. Clark.
