I should be receiving my cert.gen license pretty soon and will be ordering new business cards. I have an MBA from a state university and wanted some opinions on including this suffix on my business cards. I appreciate your opinions.

why not you have earned them.

Degree

Congratulations: :clapping:

It is not customary for any business person to list the MBA on business cards. It is customary to list designations, however.

Give the MBA prominence in your resume and leave it at that.

When it comes to business cards, remember there are two sides of a business card and you can put some stuff on the back. There are also folding business cards that can serve as a mini-brochure. You might list the counties in which you appraise or your specialties and here you can list your license level and appraisal association membership. It would be appropriate to mention your MBA in this area.

There was a poll once on AF and a surprising number responded that they had an MBA.

I'd leave it off.

I have one too and only list it on my resume.

Here's some info I found on the web:

Hello,
Is it proper to include a master's degree after one's name on a business card?
Thanks,
Karen

Answer
Dear Karen:
If your business card reflects your position in the same field as your master's degree, it is proper to put the MA or MBA or MLS or other master's distinguishment after your name. If you received a master's degree in art history and now you work for a manufacturer, it would not be proper.
The same rule applies if you have earned distinctions such as a CPA (certified public accountant) and you were working as an art curator - it would not go on your card for that position.

Best regards,

Hard to argue with the etiquette people, but if I had an MBA, I think I might put it on my card. Much harder to attain that than the IFA or SRA IMNSHO.

A friend of mine, a member of this forum, has a PHD. He uses it on his letterhead and business card. He earned it and he has a right to use it.

I don't currently use it because I don't think it would have any impact on obtaining a residential client but I think it would have a possitive effect on obtaining a commercial client. Any other opinions would be appreciated.
