I have hesitated to apply because it sounds like a pain in the neck with fees that are substantially less than I need for this area. But my area really needs some new VA appraisers. The only one on the panel is an old, clod who still writes reports with a crayon. A broker informed me that VA has raised fees for these counties and as a fellow veteran, I think maybe I owe something back.
VA has a new test for panel appraisers...they hold a mirror under your nose and if you fog it up...you get hired
Seriously, they dropped the minimum 5 year experience requirement to 2 years. You must be licensed or certified...no registered appraisers. Also they require letters of recommendation from your clients as well as references from other appraisers (panel preferred). Go to the VA website and download the application form.
Much depends on what region you are in. Some areas have little or no VA loans and don't require many appraisers. We have 28 panel appraisers in my county due to the number of military bases and retirees here.
