Thinking of finally going to an I Pad for field work just to get ready for the new UAD 3.6 What would you recommend for the field work. I'm older so probably leaning towards the 13" size. Any help is appreciated.

Microsoft Surface Go 2, Disto,100 foot fiberglass tape and a standalone 35mm camera here. Works great, not looking forward to the new changes though.

FWIW, I enjoy the larger iPad Pro for my personal (non-inspection/appraisal) use these days, probably because of my age, LOL. That said, when I was active in the biz I found the larger Pro models to be too ungainly when doing field inspection type activities., so just because it is bigger and/or costs more doesn't mean it's the best fit for your use case scenario. Unless you really think the LiDar capability on the iPad is of significant importance (ask others for real world feedback on that!) and depending on your preferences as well as the quality/implementation of the mobile software you would be using, you might at least consider an Android tablet, as well. Some Android tables have screens that are more suited for outdoor use and in my experience, the quality of the screen in outdoor environments is a factor you should seriously consider. OLED, super high refresh rates and color accuracy are touted by many to be of supreme importance, but I have found that outdoor readability of the screen to be far more importance for your daily inspection activities. Most on-line "reviewers" haven't spent 10 seconds doing what you do when inspecting properties, so strongly consider what your fellow appraisers recommend vs. someone trying to sell you something. As an ex-appraiser and software developer, I mean this to be helpful...
