When doing measurement of a property, which tool do you use? Do you use laser such as Leica? or is there a smartphone app you're using?

I've been using Disto's since they first came out. Haven't picked up a tape since. The smartphone app's are only as good as you can hold he phone steady. Try measuring something four or five times and see how many answers you get. Might be good for fence lines, but that's about it.

Hi Gobears81, thanks for your previous response. But we won't quote anyone specifically unless we get their consent. I'm just looking for some general idea about this topic. Hope you understand.

Hi Tom, do you mind sharing which app do you use? Is there a fee to use it?

I've been using the same Stanley Fatmax laser for over 15 years. Only problems I ever have are distances over 40 ft or when it's very bright outside. Bought me a tape wheel last year for a very large floor plan and was surprised at how crazy accurate it was.

I've always used the Alamode app and for the last 10 years or so with an iPad. I'm very comfortable with it, and its the only reason I stick with ALM.

Same here using the Disto now on my third generation of that product. If you have to measure houses professionally on a daily basis this is a really good tool.
For a free app try Fast Measure Plan for interior work that is kind of fun but to play around with.

Disto and a Stanley laser tool. But resort to an appraiser tape when necessary such as the light too bright. Lasers work best with two people, one using a clipboard as a target. Appraisers tapes have large double hooks that will hang on a wall easily unlike a lumber tape. Also have a wheel since I may measure buildings 300 - 600 ft in length (poultry barns and such)
