My name is James. I work for an appraisal company in Wisconsin under a senior appraiser who has a certified general license. We specifically do a lot of work in Eminent Domain. I have an undergraduate degree and a law degree. A few years ago I had a career change and started work with appraisal. If II have fallen behind in my training and want to get back on course. I have completed the USPAP course (15cr.), Basic Procedures (30) and Basic Principles (30). My boss wants me to get my Licensed Appraiser license first. But, I have noticed that some of the coursework this requirement does not line up with the certified general requirements. That it is essentially extra courses that I might not need. My questions are this:

1.) Do I need a certified Residential Appraiser license or a Licensed Appraiser as a prerequisite for the Certified General License requirements in the State of Wisconsin?

2.) If I do get a certified residential or licensed appraiser license can I use the hours to achieve those licenses to achieve my certified general license?

3.) Can I sign an Eminent Domain type appraisal in Wisconsin with with my boss as an appraiser trainee without either license to get a certified general license?

Any information will help. Thank you!

1) no
2) maybe - some of the classes can probably be used for both.
3) unless things have changed since I got my WI license (and they may have) I don't think WI is a "mandatory" state. If it's acceptable to the client, you can sign whatever you want.

Why NOT simply contact you State Board and Ask them ?
