Egg Prices

I'm sure Kalifornia has some type of dumbass laws against poultry like they do against pork that raises the prices for everyone.
Yes, cage free for instance. Not only for local eggs but any egg imported to the state....plus an annual registration fee... Even a backyard producer must register and pay the $75 initial registration and $50 a year....means no one can afford to sell an egg if they produce only a few dozen eggs a week. If you market someone elses eggs at from farm produce stand on the farm, you also must have the $50 a year license. You also must be "third party certified". That means the state can and will inspect your property and operations to certify that you are in compliance, and I think that even means the state can go to other states if those eggs come from other states. Those farms also must register to sell in CA.

Even in my local Farmer's market, the eggs are still expensive. What's up?
You would think avoiding the middle man, their eggs be cheaper.

Costco, Oregon, No Sales Tax: AA Large 18 for $5.89, or $3.93/Dozen.
