Hi All,

Let's see what kind of discussion this povokes:dry:

Next week the National Association of REALTORS meets for their Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The NAR Board of Directors meets Friday, November 9th. The agenda will include a number of issues, but will also include one of interest to appraisers:

Appraisal Institute Re-Affiliation – NAR and the Appraisal Institute are currently discussing their re-affiliation. For NAR's Appraiser members, such a move would mean bringing the best appraisal education back into the REALTOR® family, at a time when education requirements for appraisers are increasing significantly.

NAR President, Pat V. Combs appointed several members of the NAR Appraisal Committee to meet with leadership of the Appraisal Institute to discuss re-affiliation, work out some issues, and make a recommendation to the leadership of our respective organizations. I was fortunate to be part of the group as a member of the NAR Appraisal Committee and meet with the Institute folks early in October. It looks like NAR will consider the recommendation next week.

Many appraisers have been looking forward to this for quite some time. Although not a member of the Appraisal Institute, I believe re-affiliation would be a positive move for each organization and am keeping my fingers crossed that both organizations give it the "thumbs up".

I thought it was a good idea when they parted ways years ago, see no need to join up again. I wonder how the AI would handle the RAA and GAA designations?

One big happy family ........... I pass.

My best guess as to the answer to your question: "bye-bye" RAA and GAA designations and those so designated could enter as candidate (Associate) members.

Again, just my best guess. There's no way that SRAs would stand for RAAs to enter as SRAs...and you can bet that no GAA would automatically attain the MAI.

I thought AI and Zaio were going to re-affiliate. I''M JOKING...

Someone please tell me how an affiliation between Realtors and Appraiser's would be a good thing.

Okay, how about this: AI and the Mortgage Broker's Association.

I don't know. I guess I believe a little autonomy is necessary in this profession.

two beers, 5 yrs exper., and they'll "fast track em".......no problemo. :leeann:

Why do I have a feeling that someone is trying to save their hide.

I agree with Frank, this is a positive step and will help increase the lobby power of appraisers.
However, I have it on good authority that no reunification will occur until the FNC stuff goes away. The same is true for the merger of the other appraisal groups.
There should only be one designation.

When AI left NAR they immediately missed the 800-pound
gorilla, especially when it came to legislation. When virtually
all your decisions were wrong for the last 15 years, hey,
why not get married again, it couldn't hurt, do it for the
children.

I think their rejoining inlight of what the AI has been doing with AI forms and their mining and selling of data ... Its a NO GO for me.
In my opinion AI needs NAR .. NAR doesnt need AI. The education remains availalbe to NAR members for $100 more per class and the savings isnt worth giving the monster another head.
Can anyone tell me where I can send a message to NAR about my opposition to this merger. It is NOT good for appraisers.
