States that no longer issue licenses?

North Carolina dropped the "Licensed Appraiser" level 01/01/2008 but "grandfathered" anyone who already held a license.

I took the USPAP update class last fall and the instructor mentioned something about Ohio dropping the licensed residential classification. He mentioned it in the afternoon session of the class in a warm room and I was struggling to stay awake. I didn’t see anything on the Ohio Department of Commerce website regarding the removal of the licensed residential classification.

Hi Ed,

I don’t believe that is correct that Ohio is dropping the licensed classification. They have adopted the new testing and now require a back ground check with finger printing for all new applicants/upgrades. All of Ohio’s requirements have increased after 1/1/08. Only those that have completed either their education or their experience log in 2007 can qualify under the old educational/experience requirements, but must still take the new test.

what is the the point of being a licensed appraiser instead of a certified ?

I don't care what the point is or isn't - I just want to know if the following states issue licenses: AL, AR, AZ, KE, MA, ME MI, NH, NY, ND, TE, TX, WA, WV.

I'm just trying to avoid having to call each agency - I will if I have to.

Thanx
Oregon Doug

Hi, well I am interested (which is why i asked) and since some states seemingly still allow you to become a licensed appraiser what is the benefit for that? What are the requirements for each level in ohio? Someone from ohio can probably help with that.

Oregon Doug,

North Dakota has four levels of licensure,

Apprentice
Licensed
Certified Residential
Certified General

Arkansas

Arkansas still has 4 levels

State Registered (trainee)
Licensed
Certified Residential
Certified General

And I don't think it will change. These are written into the law that created the board.

Doug,

Looks like WA State still has a Licensed category.
