I got a check from a borrower.

Everything looks good on the check accept for the signature.

The guy signed it with the word “appraisal” – not in the memo field, but the signature field.

The guys name is Mike Something – not even close

I was told if I deposit it at my ATM that the signature is not checked and it will be no problem.

He has Wells Fargo and I have Bank of America.

I always check the date, amount… Now I gotta start checking the signature

Anybody ever have a similar situation.

Have you been playing pool again with your 'buddies'?

If not, go back in person, show the signator the mistake, and get another check.

The only problem is the subject is near me, but the guy drove over 100 miles to get to this weekend retreat cabin I'm appraising.

As far as shooting pool, I'm getting more into playing darts at Cheaters as they just replaced the 2 dart boards with new ones last week.

Have him mail you a new check. Hold the report until you get it and it clears.

Awhile back, I had a borrower write "three and no/100" instead of "three hundred and no/100" on a check. Bank would not cash it. I thought it was just a mistake until it took me four tries to get a correct check that would clear from the borrower.

without proper signature - it is not lender tender.

Just deposit it. The only problem will be if the account holder (check writer) notifies his bank that the check is not legally signed and claims it was a forged document.

any bank teller that accepts it should, and most likely will , be fired.

These homeowers I guess are not all rocket scientist, they shoul have to take a test to own a home. LOL....Just get a credit card number. No problem, no trip to the bank, cash in your account the same day, just a phone call or swipe away. (yes it will cost you 2.5-2.85 %) fee but in my book, less mileage on the car, less gas, less pollution, and it's directly put in my account with in 24 hours. No brainer.

There is no way I could cash it at his bank.

But... I talked to Wells Fargo and they said, if you deposit it, they don't verify the signature on every check.

If it did not have a signature at all, that would be a big red flag.

So I'm going to deposit it at my bank, and roll the dice.

From now on, I'm going to check signatures.

......so is a signature which doesnt at least attempt to match the PRE-PRINTED originator.
