Northern Pennsylvania appraisers are becoming so inundated with appraisal requests from homeowners who want to appeal their property tax assessments that they are having trouble keeping up with the workload. This, in turn, is attracting appraisers from outside the area who are looking for work. Read more...

With less than half of the county's new residential property values mailed, appraisers already are swamped with calls from anxious homeowners wondering how they'll afford taxes that in some cases are estimated at 150 percent or more of what they've been paying.

I hope that happens here. My county is planning on doing a reassessment in the near future. Last one was done in 1956. My home and 80 acres is assessed at $9000.....but the millage makes up for it....

You should have posted this in the Pennsylvania section of the forum... probably would get a lot more viewers! :new_smile-l:

Not seeing appraisal work in Texas. However, the tax reps are real busy. They just go in and jawbone down the values. I knocked $12500 off my home this year.

Our county reassesses every two years!

Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) has a base value year of 2002, everytime I do a tax appeal I have to use comps from 2002. I just decided the other day that I am going to 'steal' the tax appeal buisness from a guy that is pure garbage. I cant wait to go market at the Real Estate Investors meeting where he a chairman. Should be an interesting night.

I am not sure how much gain there is from appealing property tax assessments. The last assessment in Franklin Co. Ohio property assessments skyrocketed in a few areas...randomly. Anyway, from what I understand that the higher your assessment is, the lower % you pay. I am not sure if this is a local thing or what, but basically unless your assessment is WAY off, it may not be worth fighting for saving minimal ammounts. I heard this through a customer after I did a tax assessment appeal appraisal for her. She said she was going to save about $80 a year. Her assessment and my appraisal were off $32k, which was less than she thought. Of course she thought her assesments were off $40k, but she didn't consider she had every amenities there were available.
